Alley Cat Yarns is Melissa who works out of her at-home studio in Ottawa, Ontario. She is careful to source yarn from suppliers who are third-party certified for standards in animal welfare and environmental stewardship, or from traceable small family farms where I've personally investigated these standards. Until now, all of her colours have been unique and unrepeatable, but this line of mini skeins represents her latest work in creating a large, cohesive line of repeatable colourways. We are very excited to be carrying her work at Yarns Untangled!

Her Super Sock is a workhorse superwash sock and fingering weight yarn, suitable for just about any project you'd like to knit or crochet. Soft and strong, choose this yarn with confidence for your sweaters, shawls, cowls, socks, hats, mittens, baby blankets, and everything else you'd like to create! This yarn is an "average" fingering weight sock yarn, and can be used in combination with many other fingering weight sock yarns, or held double for DK weight.

What are mini skeins used for?

Mini skeins are useful for all kinds of projects!

  • contrast colours for sock heels, toes, or cuffs (1 mini skein will do heels and toes for a pair of socks)
  • colour fades or gradients
  • stripes
  • pops of colour
  • 'scrappy' projects
  • colourwork
  • small projects
  • embroidery on finished pieces

Super Sock mini skeins have lot numbers to ensure your mini skeins of the same colour truly match.

Spun and hand-dyed in Canada with wool imported from outside of North America.

**Each skein of hand-dyed yarn is a unique item. As such, the yarn you receive can differ somewhat from batch to batch, and from this picture. While we do our best to represent here the colourways of each dyer, it is possible that the yarn you receive may not look exactly like the one seen here.

While no dye lot is available, they are usually dyed in batches and we do our utmost to ensure each skein of the same colourway and your order matches as well as possible. Always buy enough yarn for your project. If we cannot guarantee a good match between skeins, we will contact you before shipment to make arrangements.

***Eco-wash is a proprietary enzyme treatment process that claims to avoid harsher chemical processes than other superwash treatments. This yarn is certified by Textile Exchange's Responsible Wool Standard and Global Recycling Standard. These standards address topics of: animal welfare, land management, social welfare, resource conservation, and chain of custody. Review these standards at the Textile Exchange website.
